Life

Ulrich Englisch came to Düsseldorf with his family in 1954 . On April 14, 1962 he entered the Cologne Order Province of the Franciscan Order and received the order name Laurentius , which he uses as an artist together with his civil name. He was ordained a priest on July 27, 1968 . From 1970 to 1975 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , including as a master class student with Joseph Beuys and Beate Schiff .

Since then, English has been one of the most sought-after artists in the design of religious themes in graphics , relief and sculpture . In the Rhenish-Westphalian region, but also in the Netherlands , Belgium and as far as Israel and Taiwan , works by him have been placed as memorial and meditation pictures. His style of design puts biblical and hagiographic themes in scene at the same time sensually and spiritually and deviates from the classic patterns of iconography .

English lives in the Franciscan monastery Vossenack , where he worked as a teacher and art educator at the Franziskus-Gymnasium there. He was chaplain in 2006 by the Vatican religious congregation repealed Karmelitinnenkloster in two cases , in the monastery church, he also exhibited. He looked after the remaining religious even after the closure.
