Laurier LaPierre
Laurier LaPierre (born November 21, 1929 in Lac-Mégantic , Québec , † December 16, 2012 in Ottawa , Ontario ) was a Canadian politician of the Liberal Party of Canada , author and television presenter .
Life
LaPierre studied history at the University of Toronto . He co-hosted the Canadian television show This Hour Has Seven Days in the 1960s with Patrick Watson . After the television show ended, he ran for the Canadian New Democratic Party as a candidate in the 1968 general election, in which he lost. In the following decades he worked again on Canadian television and wrote several books as an author. For various newspapers such as The Financial Post , International Review , Canadian Forum and Encyclopædia Britannicahe wrote articles. He came out in the 1980s. He got involved with the Canadian LGBT organization EGALE Canada . In June 2001, he was named a Senator for the Canadian Senate , which he served until November 2004, when he reached the age limit of 75.
