Johannes Ludovicus Mathieu Lauweriks , also Jan Lauweriks (born August 25, 1864 in Roermond , Netherlands ; † April 15, 1932 in Amsterdam , Netherlands) was a Dutch architect .

Life

After studying in Amsterdam, Lauweriks taught at the Haarlem School of Applied Arts from 1900 to 1904 , then from 1904 to 1909 at the Düsseldorf School of Applied Arts founded by Hermann Muthesius and directed by Peter Behrens . He took over from Behrens the architecture class to which Adolf Meyer belonged. Karl Ernst Osthaus managed to bring Lauweriks to Hagen in September 1909 . Here he led the state manual skills course until 1916 and was the artistic director of the Hagen silversmiths . In 1916 he returned to the Netherlands and taught arts and crafts and architecture there. His views inspired the Dutch artist Chris Lebeau for the rest of his life.

Lauweriks planned the development of the street “Am Stirnband” in Hagen with nine houses according to arithmetic-geometric formulas for the artist colony Gartenstadt Hohenhagen .

In 1894 he joined the Theosophical Society and from 1895 was a member of the Theosophical Society Adyar . From May 1913 to the end of 1914 Lauweriks was Secretary General of the German Section of the Theosophical Society .
