Life

After almost nine years in office, he died in office on May 14, 1995. He was succeeded by his party friend Ralph T. O'Neal , who was previously a minister in his cabinet.

After his death, his birthday was declared an annual public holiday and the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in Tortola was named after him.
