Ralph T. O'Neal

Ralph Telford O'Neal (born December 15, 1933 on Virgin Gorda ; † November 11, 2019 in Tortola ) was twice, from May 15, 1995 to June 17, 2003 and again from August 23, 2007 to November 9 2011 Chief Minister of the British Virgin Islands . With 4,494 days in this office, he was the second longest in this position to date, behind Lavity Stoutt , who died in 1995.

Life

O'Neal, who trained as a lawyer at Oxford University , was a member of the British Virgin Islands Bar Association, although he never practiced within the Islands area. He was also considered one of the largest landowners in the state. In the early 1990s, in addition to his ministerial positions in Lavity Stoutt's cabinet, he was also a consultant to Shell Corporation. He wore the Order of the British Empire and was a member of the Virgin Islands Party , of which he was also chairman.
