Lawson is a British pop rock band.

Band history

The four members from different English cities met through college and MySpace and joined forces in London in 2009. Initially they called themselves The Grove after a mall in Los Angeles . They later chose the name Lawson in honor of the surgeon who removed a brain tumor from Andy Brown. They worked their way up through pub appearances and festivals and also used internet platforms such as YouTube for self-promotion. They opened up for performances by Avril Lavigne and Will Young and opened up for The Wanted's UK tour in 2012 . At their first concert in Brighton a record company got in touch and they signed to Polydor in July of that year .

They then toured the UK twice and produced their debut album in Los Angeles with Grammy winner John Shanks . In doing so, they could fall back on their own songs, which were essentially written by Andy Brown. Their first single, When She Was Mine , was released by Lawson in June 2012 and immediately hit number 4 on the UK charts, the follow-up Taking Over Me rose one place higher. The album Chapman Square was released at the end of October . The third single Standing in the Dark was released in advance .
