Leïla Chaibi (born October 5, 1982 in Dijon ) is a French politician ( La France insoumise ). Since the 2019 European elections , she has been a member of the European Parliament as part of the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left .

Life

Leïla Chaibi was born on October 5, 1982 in Dijon . After completing school, she studied political science at the Institut d'études politiques de Toulouse , graduating in 2005.

First political engagement

During her studies, Chaibi worked as a member of SUD Étudiant , the student association of the Union syndicale Solidaires union . Nevertheless, Chaibi stayed a long way apart from the traditional political organizations - she only joined the newly founded Nouveau Parti anticapitalist in 2009 . Disappointed with the isolationism of the NPA, which refused to ally with other left organizations and parties, it left them in February 20114 to join the Parti de gauche . In the party, she became the “national secretary for poverty eradication” (secrétaire nationale à l'abolition du précariat).

In 2012, Chaibi worked as a member of the National Campaign Council of the Front de gauche for the 2012 presidential election and was in charge of "Usine", the headquarters of the campaign for presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon . In the parliamentary elections in 2012 , Leïla Chaibi ran for a mandate in the tenth constituency of Paris for the first time, but lost significantly in the first ballot with 11.62 percent of the votes against Denis Baupin (EELV / PS with 42.89 percent) and Chenva Tieu (UMP with 23.13 percent). For the 2014 local elections, she was on the list of the Front du Gauche À Paris, place au peuple! , supported by Danielle Simonnet and Jean-Luc Mélenchon, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris.

In the 2017 parliamentary elections , Chaibi ran again in the tenth constituency for La France insoumise . With 14.62 percent of the votes she entered the second round, but could not beat Anne-Christine Lang from La République en marche in the second round with 39.89 percent ! 60.11 percent enforce.

Entry into the European Parliament

For the 2019 European elections , she nominated La France insoumise for third place on the list. In the election, the party won 6 of the 79 French mandates with 6.31 percent of the vote. For her group she is a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and a deputy member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism .
