Le Sambuc

Le Sambuc is a district of the city of Arles in the French department of Bouches-du-Rhône . In 2006 530 people lived here.

location

Le Sambuc is located around 25 kilometers south of the center of Arles, on the right (western) bank of the Rhône . The main access route is the D 36, which branches off the D570 west of Arles. The village belongs to the canton of Arles-Ouest .

Culture

Even if the village has only a few houses from the 19th century to offer besides its church, it is close to the most beautiful country estates in the Camargue . These include in particular the Mas du Peint and the Mas de la Tour du Cazeau . Economically, the residents mainly rely on bull breeding and the production of (often organic) rice. The Tour du Valat biological station studies the nature of the Camargue.

The church In 1636 the order to build the church was given. The aim was to counteract the increasing decline of Christian influence in the region. The facade was renewed in 1656, the roof towards the end of the 19th century. The church, which faces east-west, is called Église de la Nativité de la Vierge .
