Leagros (Ephebe)

Leagros was a Greek who lived as a youth at the end of the 6th / beginning of the 5th century BC. Chr. Popular motif was red-figure vase painter . Leagros was the preferred ephebe of the famous painter Euphronios and the Leagros group named after him . Euphronios' pupil Smikros even depicted him courting the youth on a vase. The painter Onesimos also drew the Ephebe. Leagros is often also documented with inscriptions on vases.

Leagros was one of the young men who functioned as a symbol of a new person in the emerging Athenian society. A mature man's affection for a young man was seen as a sign of human free development. He is often identified with the politician and military Leagros .
