Learchos (mythology)
Learchus ( Greek Λέαρχος , Latin Learchus ) is a figure in Greek mythology .
He is the son of Athamas and his second wife Ino . His brother is Melikertes .
Learchus is killed by his father Athamas. According to some versions, Athamas is cursed by Hera , so that he snatches Learchus from his mother and smashes him on a rock. According to another version, he is so angry with Ino when he learns that she has spun an intrigue against his children from his first marriage, Phrixos and Helle , that he deliberately wants to kill them and their children. Ino then jumps into the sea with Melikertes.
