The strictest parents in the world was a docu-soap that was broadcast by Kabel eins from 2009 to 2012 and by Sat.1 in 2013 and has been broadcast again on Kabel eins since 2014. Under the title Extreme Upbringing: The Strictest Parents in the World Special , old episodes will be re-edited and broadcast on Sat.1 Gold.
concept
The program shows young people who have been noticed in their families and schools for their lack of consideration and disrespect, often supplemented by excessive alcohol and / or drug consumption and violence, usually one boy and one girl per program. They are sent for about two weeks to a completely new environment in a foreign country, where they are supposed to prove themselves socially in a new environment and show respect for their fellow human beings . They usually have to live in rather uncomfortable conditions and do work that is uncomfortable for them. Agriculture and the duty to help feed the community often play a role. The young people are clueless when they start their journey - they think they are being sent on an ordinary vacation or party trip. The new family usually does not speak German, and since the young people rarely have a good command of English or speak the respective national language, they usually have to communicate with the host parents using a translator. At first, the young people are surprised or horrified by their new whereabouts and the rules imposed on them there. In the first week there is a punishment for at least one person refusing to work or breaking the smoking ban. In the middle of the stay there is a psychological low point, followed by a rethink and the realization that one has to change. This is followed by cooperation with the host family and learning to deal with social issues. At the end of the program, the young people return to their parents in Germany purified and want to lead a better life.
Other countries
The original concept of the show comes from the British production company TwentyTwenty Television, which originally produced the show for the BBC . Under the name “The World's Strictest Parents”, the program ran on the BBC, in the USA on the CMT channel and on Channel Seven in Australia in separate versions tailored to the two countries. The format also runs in Denmark (under the title "Verdens stricte forældre") on the Danish channel TV3 and in Poland (title: "Surowi Rodzice") on the Polish channel TVN.
criticism
The Hamburger Abendblatt criticized the show in an article dated March 2, 2009 that young people were speculatively presented as negative examples where expert pedagogy would have been appropriate. The participants would be sent into a disaster completely unprepared. In 2012 the Commission for Youth Media Protection (KJM) sharply criticized the program format; The strictest parents in the world give the viewer the impression that a change in behavior among young people can be achieved through rigor and in the context of a television broadcast.

- Remarks
- ↑ The episode was broadcast as a special, for the first time the mothers traveled after their children and were able to watch their stay on screens in a hotel nearby and were brought to the children at the end, so the reunion wasn't at home for the first time, but with the host parents.
