Leaving Spirit is a German Blues - and Southern rock - band from Würzburg . The band consists of Paula Frecot, Florian Eppel, Leo Kürschner, Anton Bohne, Linus Glaesemer and Felix Möser. In August 2019 she released her debut album Things Change and shortly afterwards was featured as Act of the Month by the German magazine Guitar & Bass .

The name Leaving Spirit is based on the line of text "my spirit is crying for leaving" from the song Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin .

history

Leaving Spirit was founded in 2016 by Charlotte Bohne, Marea Löser, Leo Kürschner, Laurin Seitz and Florian Eppel as part of a project by the Würzburg Singing and Music School.

After winning the newcomer contest "Enter the Stage" of the Würzburger Rockgemeinschaft eV in 2017, Anton Bohne completed the guitar trio as the third guitarist. Leaving Spirit then played a number of club and festival appearances in the region, including two shows at Würzburg's largest festival, the 2018 Free & Outdoor Festival.

Also in 2018 the recordings for the debut album Things Change began. Since the founding members Marea Löser, Charlotte Bohne and Laurin Seitz moved away from Würzburg to study, it was decided to complete the album with the new singer Paula Frecot. A little later the band was completed by Felix Möser (drums) and Linus Glaesemer (bass).

The debut album Things Change was finally released on August 2nd, 2019 and received very good reviews from trade magazines and blogs.

style

Leaving Spirit plays handmade rock music with influences from blues, country and southern rock. Their style is often compared to bands and artists such as Neil Young , Lynyrd Skynyrd , Larkin Poe or Blackberry Smoke. One of the band's special trademarks is the unusual instrumentation. Lapsteel guitar, mandolin, blues harp and spoons are sometimes used on the Thíngs Change album .

Also unusual for the genre is the distinctive female lead vocals of Paula Frecot, which can be described as a mixture of Grace Slick and Stevie Nicks , but nevertheless has its own recognition value.
