history

The Swiss Larissa Georgiou aka Larissa Iceglass and the British William Maybelline founded Lebanon Hanover in 2010 after they met in Maybelline's hometown Sunderland . Iceglass originally spent her vacation there. Both wrote several of the titles of the debut album The World Is Getting Colder within a week . Soon after, Maybelline followed Iceglass to Berlin to continue making music with her. Since then, the duo's location has alternated between Germany and England; Among other things, they both moved temporarily to Sunderland to stay in Maybelline's parents' house free of charge.

In addition, both musicians dropped out of their respective studies - Iceglass originally studied art, Maybelline, however, design - for different reasons. Iceglass named the perceived compulsion to market oneself on the art market as a central factor. The connection to the audience is more congruent and meanwhile more emotional through the music. Both kept the artistic aspect in the design of their music videos , the merchandise and the overall look of the band project . Iceglass repeatedly called the group homeless and disoriented, a fact to which, after Iceglass, the band name, which, according to Iceglass, is borrowed from an American town of the same name, can be referred to.

Larissa Georgiou

“Both places have no connection with each other - but if they had a connection, we imagine a beautiful place. Simply building a new world with the same name is a nice idea, because we are very disoriented in this world and do not know where we belong. "

In the meantime, the duo began with international appearances, which led to tours through Spain in 2013, through the USA in 2014, through Italy in 2015, and through Russia and Europe in 2016, among other things.

The group then released the third studio album Tomb for Two in 2013 , which was also well received. The website Peek-A-Boo-Magazine compared the album with The Danse Society , The Chameleons and Joy Division and called it “one of the highlights of the year, if not THE highlight.” In the same year the single Gallowdance followed , which is also enthusiastic has been recorded. To work on the fourth album, Iceglass and Maybelline used a professional recording studio for the first time. The recordings were previously made in our own home studio. The music of Lebanon Hanover is commonly assigned to the dark wave. It is considered minimalist and inspired by post-punk music of the 1980s. The music is characterized by a “cool aesthetic [as well as] a slight slant in vocals and guitar playing”. The sound of the production is deliberately kept simple and "in connection with the tender voice of Larissa Iceglass supported by the light synth sounds, the deep bass and the elegant guitar parts" make the music so charming. The connection of the simply programmed rhythm, the deep bass playing and the enraptured effect of the guitar and the singing is meanwhile emphasized by different reviewers.

Iceglass explains the combination as the result of the collaboration. Maybelline is responsible for the rhythm, synthesizer and bass playing, which provide the music with an orderly framework while it contributes rather chaotic fragments. As a common conceptual idea, she only describes the simple production based on the desire to generate the most organic sound possible.
