Leda Milewa ( Bulgarian Леда Милева ; February 5, 1920 in Sofia - February 5, 2013 ) was a Bulgarian writer , translator , journalist , editor and diplomat .

Life

Leda Milewa is the daughter of the poet Geo Milew . She attended the American College in Bulgaria and then the University of Sofia , where she studied law. After the Second World War, she began her journalistic work at Radio Sofia , where she was in charge of children's and youth programs. She was also the editor of the magazines Pionerska samodejnost and Druschinka . In addition, she worked as a publishing editor for the publishers National Youth and Bulgarian writer . For four years, from 1966 to 1970, she was Director General of Bulgarian National Television . For the next two years she was the deputy head of a department in the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dealing with printing and cultural cooperation. In 1978 she became the permanent representative of Bulgaria for UNESCO in Paris.

After her return to Bulgaria, Leda Milewa was a member of the seventh, eighth and ninth Bulgarian National Assemblies . She was also chairman of the Bulgarian Translators Association for ten years, as well as leading the Bulgarian branch of PEN for many years

She has written over 30 books of poetry for children. As a translator, she translated contemporary American, British and African poems into Bulgarian. Among other things, she translated texts by Emily Dickinson

Honors

She was honored with the Konstantin Konstantinov Prize for her services to children's and youth literature . In 2006 she was awarded the Order of Stara Planina 1st class.
