Lee Hye-gyeong or Lee Hye-kyoung (* 1960 in Poryŏng , in the province of South Ch'ungch'ŏng ) is a South Korean writer .

Life

Lee Hye-kyoung studied literature in Seoul at Kyung Hee University and worked as a teacher at a high school for two years. Later she worked in a bookstore and from 1993 devoted herself entirely to writing.

While still a student, she made her debut in 1982 with the story Our Leaf Scar, which was published in the magazine "Segye-ŭi munhak" (world literature). In 1995 she published the novel Das Haus auf dem Weg , which was awarded the “Prize for Today's Authors”. Three years later she published the anthology Vor dem Haus . For this volume she received a prize from the Hankook Ilbo . She then went to Indonesia as a volunteer , teaching Korean in Java at the university . After her return she received the “Prize for Contemporary Literature” for the short story Passhöhe (2001) and immersed herself in her writing again. In 2002 she published her second anthology Under the Shadow of the Flowers , which was honored with the Lee Hyo-sŏk Literature Prize.
