Lee Ki-hyung (born September 28, 1974 in Hwasun , Jeollanam-do ) is a former South Korean football player and current coach . He has spent most of his career in South Korea , most recently playing for Auckland City FC in New Zealand. As a coach, he was active in various positions at FC Seoul from 2011 to 2014 . He had coached Incheon United from 2016 until his release in 2018 . He is now under contract as an assistant coach at Busan IPark FC .

Career as a player

Lee Ki-hyung studied at Korea University from 1992 to 1995 and played for the university team during this time. Then he was signed by the Suwon Samsung Bluewings . With the Bluewings he won the Korean FA Cup in 2002 . After six years and over 150 league appearances and 18 goals, he left the club and moved to Seongnam FC , then still Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma FC . There he got a two-year contract. During that time he played 65 games there and scored five goals. In 2005 he moved to FC Seoul . In the two years that he was there, however, he never got beyond the reserve role in 17 missions (no goals). In 2007 he left South Korea and went to New Zealand for Auckland City FC . There he signed a three-year contract. There he came to 39 missions and five goals. At the end of 2010 he ended his career as a player.

National team

As early as 1990, two years before the university, he was appointed to the U-17 national team. For them he made a game. During his university days he was nominated for the U-20 and the U-23 national team . From 1994 he played for the senior national team . In 2003 he ended his career in the national team after 47 appearances and six goals.

Career as a coach

After his time in New Zealand, he went back to South Korea. There he was signed by FC Seoul in 2011. He held various functions there. In 2011 he was assistant coach and from July 2011 second assistant coach of the 1st team. In 2013 he became an assistant coach again for a year. At the end of 2014, he moved to Incheon United . There he was assistant trainer until September 2016. After the club dismissed Kim Do-hoon as a coach, it was decided to make Lee Ki-hyung an interim coach. He should remain interim coach until the end of the season. It was his job to prevent the descent. Under him, the team stabilized in the relegation rounds and won three of the five games. The club played the other two games in a draw. On the last day of the match, his team managed to stay up with a 1-0 win over Suwon FC . The club then announced that they wanted to keep him as a coach due to his performance as a coach for the next season.
