Lee Moore (politician)

Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore (born February 15, 1939 in St. Kitts , † May 6, 2000 in New York City ) was a politician from St. Kitts and Nevis .

biography

Moore first became public relations advisor to Premier Robert Bradshaw in 1967 . He began his own political career in 1971 when he was elected a member of the National Assembly, in which he represented the interests of constituency 4 ( Old Road-Sandy Point, East ) until 1984 . Between 1971 and 1979 he was also an Attorney General in the Bradshaw and Paul Southwell cabinets . From 1978 until his death he was also chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions (St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labor Union).

When Southwell died on May 18, 1979, Moore was Prime Minister his successor as Head of Government of the Associated State. He held this office until February 21, 1980. He was also chairman of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labor Party between 1979 and 1989.

In 1995 he became his country's ambassador to the United Nations in New York and held this post until his death. In January 2000 he was raised to the nobility as Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George and since then has had the suffix "Sir".
