Lee Strobel (2007)

Lee Strobel (born January 25, 1952 in Arlington Heights , Illinois ) is an American author and former journalist and pastor . He is considered one of the most famous contemporary Christian apologists .

Life

Strobel studied journalism at the University of Missouri and law at Yale Law School . He worked fourteen years as a court reporter for the Chicago Tribune and received several awards for his reporting.

When his wife turned to the Christian faith, he came to question his atheist beliefs. Inspired by a sermon given by Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Community Church , he began studying Christianity in 1980, reading arguments for and against the faith, and interviewing experts such as Bruce M. Metzger , Ben Witherington, and Edwin M. Yamauchi . He later published the results in his book The Case of Jesus: A Journalist in Search of the Truth . He himself was convinced by the arguments presented in his own words.

Strobel became active in the Willow Creek Church, later gave up his profession and worked from 1987 as a pastor and author in Chicago and California. Since 2002 he has concentrated on his writing work. In the English-speaking world, he has sold a total of over 8.5 million books, and his book “Der Fall Jesus” is already in the 9th edition in German. In 2016, the material of the book was filmed with Mike Vogel (as Lee Strobel) and Erika Christensen (as his wife) and published in 2017. Strobel advocates the intelligent design thesis in his books .

He is married to Leslie and lives in Southern California.

criticism

Critics accuse him of selecting the arguments one-sidedly and only conducting interviews with representatives of the Christian standpoint, but not with opponents. Christian apologists defend Strobel by arguing that his works are Christian apologetics and do not claim journalistic neutrality.
