Lee Soon-won or Lee Sun-won (born May 2, 1958 in Kangnŭng , Kangwon-do ) is a South Korean writer .

Life

Lee Sun-won was born in the small mountain village of Ŭich'ŏlli near Kangnŭngs, in the province of Kangwon. In Lee Sun-won's family, strict family morals based on traditional Confucianism were paramount. From 1965 he attended elementary school. After graduating from high school, he wanted to become a farmer and grew vegetables in the Taegwallyŏng area.

In 1977 he enrolled at Kangwon University with a major in business studies , but his interest was literature . The following year he read Cho Se-hui's story The Dwarf . It impressed him very much, and he began to occupy himself exclusively with editing Korean literature and writing his own drafts. In 1980 he was drafted into the army. His experiences can be found in numerous motifs in his early works. Lee Sun-won believed that the army was the breeding ground for opposition, corruption and violent authority. He also believed that the army’s grievances were related to the structural problems of society.

In his early works he focused on exploring the causes of social contradictions and corruption. After the release of water color, the pattern of the water that deal with social issues, was in the works of water color (serial) Ŭnbiryŏng , In Search of the mule , the way I'm going with my son and finally purity the Focus on sensitivity.
