Leffe is a Belgian abbey beer from the Anheuser-Busch-InBev group . It is named after an earlier abbey and is now brewed by several AB-InBevs breweries, in Belgium by Stella Artois in Leuven .

In 1152, the Premonstratensians founded the Notre-Dame de Leffe abbey near Dinant . In 1240 they bought a brewery and moved it to the abbey. They lost ownership as early as 1466 and the brewery has now been leased. When the abbey was dissolved during the French Revolution , beer production was stopped and it was not until 1952 that the brewer Lootvoet acquired the naming rights, whose operation was taken over by the Stella Artois group in 1955. Production was relocated to the Brasserie Garde in Mont-Saint-Guibert in 1975 . This year the annual output was 18,000 hectoliters ; when this location was closed in 1996 and production was relocated to Leuven, it had increased to 300,000 hectoliters. Stella Artois with the Leffe brand was merged into the Interbrew group in 1987 , which after the merger with the Brazilian AmBev (2004) and then the American Anheuser-Busch (2008) became today's brewery group Anheuser-Busch InBev.
