At the time of the Vietnam War , the couple Iris and Casey from a small town in South Dakota went different ways. Iris dreams of Hollywood fame while Casey enrolls in the Marine Corps . On the last day before leaving, Casey deflowered his girlfriend in an outdoor scene. As they try to keep in touch by letter, life changes their lives. Casey settles in a brothel in Vietnam. He and his hometown friend Shelby have eyes only for a sad girl whose vocal cords are damaged. Meanwhile, Iris has fallen for the lesbian Hollywood agent Gloria Leonard, who seduces Iris. Through all of this, the couple loses contact with each other until they both happen to be on theMeet Hollywood Boulevard again when Casey, now a taxi driver, picks up a street girl who turns out to be his childhood sweetheart.
