Adult Film Association of America

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Adult Film Association of America (AFAA) was the first association of American producers of porn films . She fought censorship regulations and tried to protect the industry against prosecution under US profanity regulations. Every year she presented industry film prizes, the Erotic Film Awards, where the Erotica Award was presented as a trophy.

The AFAA was founded in 1969 in Kansas City , Missouri . Its first president was Sam Chernoff of Astro-Jemco Film Co. Other notable presidents were the film producer David F. Friedman , elected third president in 1971 and re-elected four times before eventually becoming Chairman of the Board, and the porn actress and magazine publisher ( high society ) Gloria Leonard .

From 1976 to 1985, the AFAA awarded the most important film prizes for the porn film industry of the time. In later years the award was increasingly being accused of manipulation. The award of awards to the film Virginia in 1984 (for the year 1983) led to the establishment of the X-Rated Critics Organization , which to this day awards the only critics award in the industry. The AFAA Awards were eventually replaced as the most important American porn film awards by the AVN Awards , which have been held since 1984.

With the advent of porn videos, the AFAA was renamed the Adult Film and Video Association of America (AFVAA). Its role as an industry organization for the porn industry was taken over by the Free Speech Coalition , founded in 1991 , which the AFAA names as a forerunner organization.
