Jamie Gillis (1999)

Jamie Gillis (born Jamey Ira Gurman ; born April 20, 1943 in New York City , New York ; † February 19, 2010 there ) was an American porn actor . He has been in the porn film industry since the early 1970s and has long been one of the most famous and most booked actors. Gillis was inducted into both the AVN Hall of Fame and the XRCO Hall of Fame .

Life

Gillis graduated from the Columbia University in 1970, and then worked as an off-Broadway - theater actor in New York. In parallel to his work as an actor, he worked as a taxi driver. In 1971, he applied to be a nude model in response to an advertisement on the Village Voice . A short time later he starred in pornographic short films ( loops ) and feature films.

Gillis quickly established himself as one of the most commercially successful actors during the "Golden Age" of American porn film, which lasted from about 1972 to 1983. At that time, pornography was not available in the form of videos but rather as film, the budgets were comparatively high and the sexual performances were mostly embedded in a story. Gillis was known for his acting skills as well as his sexual stamina.

Gillis played leading or important supporting roles in many well-known pornographic films of this period, including The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann , The Opening of Misty Beethoven , The Story of Joanna , Through the Looking Glass , The Ecstacy Girls , Amanda By Night , Dracula Sucks , Vista Valley PTA, and Roommates . Gillis continued his career as a porn actor even after the conversion of pornography production from film to video and appeared in well-known films such as New Wave Hookers from 1985 with Traci Lords as a co-actress. In 1989 he was in the first film John Stagliano in the series Buttman as an actor.

In the same year he created the video series On the Prowl , which is considered to be one of the first copies of gonzo pornography films . The focus of the series was Gillis as the driver of a limousine, the occupant of which was a professional porn actress who spoke to "random" passers-by while driving through Los Angeles and had sex with them in the car. The series was parodied in the film Boogie Nights with Burt Reynolds in the role of Gillis. At the end of the 1980s, Gillis started the long-term porn film series Dirty Debutantes as co-producer with Ed Powers , in which young amateur porn actresses are used as debutantes.

In the 1990s and from 2000 onwards, Gillis was used less often as a performer in porn films. He rarely played in "regular" porn film productions, but mainly in fetish films, which he expressed his openness to unconventional sexual practices. He was very active in New York's adult entertainment industry in the 1970s, often appearing on live sex shows. He has been interested in BDSM for a long time and has specialized in acting roles in films of this genre, mostly, but not always, as the dominant partner. He played u. a. in spanking and bondage films. His work as an actor in the film Schpritz (original title: Water Power) from 1977, in which he plays an “enema bandit” who rapes women and then gives them enemas, is also notorious.

Gillis was also known for his relationships with porn actresses Serena in the late 1970s and Amber Lynn in the mid 1980s. He was most recently a kind of "elder statesman" of the American porn film industry, who was admired by his younger colleagues as a pioneer of the golden era. From 1989 Gillis lived in San Francisco , but moved back to New York around 2000.

Gillis died on February 19, 2010 in New York City of malignant melanoma that had been diagnosed just months earlier.
