architecture

The Mud House Rauch was designed and constructed by Roger Boltshauser (Boltshauser Architects AG) and Martin Rauch (Lehm Ton Erde Baukunst GmbH).

The house is in a privileged location at the end of a driveway facing slightly south.

The rectangular house was placed across the slope and anchored at the back with an extension. The rammed earth walls showed lines like pinstripes made of burnt bricks on the facade, which structure the facade and protect it from driving rain. Large windows were placed sparingly and were given one or two side niches for ventilation.

On the ground floor, which is largely located on the slope, there are access rooms and storage rooms and a guest room with bathroom. The ground floor received hourdis ceilings with cross-tensioned steel profiles with adobe bricks placed in them. The central entrance room received floors with fired tiles made of fired clay with a printed pattern.

The entrance room leads to a stairwell with a spiral staircase in a basket arch-like floor plan with a top closure with a dome with enclosed glass blocks. The steps are clamped to the rammed earth wall and have a sheet steel railing.

The living rooms with kitchen and a two-story studio are on the first floor. On the second floor there are two bedrooms with bathrooms.
