The Leibdragonerdenkmal in Karlsruhe ( Baden ) is dedicated to the 1st Baden Leib-Dragoon Regiment No. 20 . It was created by Kurt Edzard in 1926–1929 .

After the not far away body grenadier monument on the former Lorettoplatz , it is the second for the two body regiments of the Baden sovereign.

The equestrian statue shows a dragoon during the First World War (1914–1918), already wearing a steel helmet . He can be recognized by the lance as a cavalryman . His horse raises the front hooves ( levade ).

On the front of the base is a crown, the symbol of the regiment.

There are inscriptions on the two long sides of the base:

Leibdragonerdenkmal, from right in front,
in the background the Christ Church

On the left is:

1914-1918
THOSE FALLEN IN WAR
BODY DRAGONERS
FROM YOUR COMPANIES

The inscription on the right side of the base comes from the Edda and reads

YOU DIE - PROPERTY DIES
THE KINDS ARE DIE.
ONLY LIVES - WE KNOW IT -
THE DEAD FAME.
EDDA

(76th stanza of the Hávamál ; see also: Ljóðaháttr ).
