The inscription on the back:
regiment
The regiment was founded on March 23, 1803 with a garrison in Mannheim . At the same time as the regiment was founded, Baden was elevated to the status of an electorate . With the elevation to electoral prince, Margrave Carl Friedrich also received parts from Palatinate possession, including 1,000 infantrymen who were integrated into the new regiment. When Baden was elevated to a Grand Duchy in August 1806 , the regiment was renamed "Hereditary Grand Duke Regiment". The years from 1815 to 1848 were quiet times for the regiment, but in 1848 it drew into the First Schleswig-Holstein War . As a result, it was the only regiment to survive the turmoil of the Baden Revolution and was renamed “Infantry Battalion ” in July 1849 , later to “Infantry Battalion No. 1” and finally to “1. Infantry Regiment ”. In February 1851 the regiment was transferred to Karlsruhe in garrison.
On the occasion of the marriage of Grand Duke Friedrich I to Princess Luise of Prussia , the regiment was named "Leib Grenadier Regiment" on September 20, 1856 and received the Gardelitzen . (see also Baden Army )
