The Leineweberdenkmal is a monument in the city of Bielefeld in the Mitte district . It stands east of the old town Nicolaikirche in the old town church park. It was created in 1909 by the sculptor Hans Perathoner , who led the sculpting class at the Bielefeld School of Crafts and Applied Arts from 1907 . Like the county monument in Jöllenbeck , it was inaugurated on July 16, 1909 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Ravensberg county .

The monument consists of a three meter high bronze figure of a linen weaver standing on a pedestal and reminds us that in Bielefeld at the beginning of the 20th century the linen weavers played a major role in the city's economic development. The figure wears a box and thus takes up the cliché of the Kiepenkerls widespread in Westphalia .

The model for the monument was the former linen weaver Jobst Heinrich Heienbrok from Jöllenbeck, who moved from here to the Sparrenburg every day for three months . When a model of the sculpture was moved semi-dry, it collapsed , injuring Erich Lossie , a student of Perathoner at the time.

At first the monument stood on the north side of the old town Nicolaikirche and looked west to Niedernstrasse. It was moved in 1954 when the war-torn square was being redesigned. After protests by citizens, it returned to its current location in 1960.
