History and architecture

The three - and - a - half- storey half- timbered house was built in 1885, according to other sources, in 1886 for master carpenter Albert Julius Hitzeroth. It belongs to the so-called rayon houses , which were built in accordance with special building regulations in advance of the Magdeburg Fortress and had to be built in such a way that they could be demolished quickly in the event of war. The building is provided with a complete horizontal wooden cladding, which is painted with ornaments in some places. The shadow gaps created give the impression of a plastered rustic look . The facade has ten axes and features elements in the neo-renaissance style . Above axes five to seven there is an elaborately designed steep wooden ornamental gable with an incline of 40 degrees. It has a short floating roof that protrudes 80 centimeters above the cornice. Below the floating roof there is a wooden pointed arch and two triangular gables to one side. The gable is designed with a hanging frame in neo-baroque shapes. There are ornaments made of sawn and turned elements. In the area of these axes, the cladding projects twelve centimeters as a flat risalit . The windows of the middle of the three axes are emphasized on the first and second floors with their own floating roof. The first axis is also emphasized by means of a simulated projection and is also added.

The ground floor is separated from the upper floors by a protruding cornice . The house entrance is on the sixth axis. The window frames are simple and have a cornice-like window sill. The parapets on the ground floor are included in the frame and boarded up vertically. The parapet fields on the first floor are each decorated with a fan rosette made from nailed-on boards. The windows themselves are framed by pilasters on which gable-like window canopies rest. On the second floor, the parapet fields are fitted with decoupled fittings. The window roofs are designed here alternately as gable and cornice roofs.

The house has a jamb and is covered with a flat gable roof. Parts of the decorations of the house are reminiscent of the so-called Old German style typical of furniture design in the 19th century .

In the local register of monuments , the house is listed under registration number 094 17069 as a monument .

It is considered an urban and architecturally significant rayon house and is located in an area where several houses of this type have been preserved.

The building stood empty for a long time and was in urgent need of renovation. The house was renovated in 2019/2020.
