The Leipziger Zeitung ( LZ ) is a newspaper that has been published in Leipzig since March 2015, initially weekly and since November 2015 monthly. It is published, printed and distributed by LZ Medien GmbH . She mainly reports on Saxon state and Leipzig local politics, economy, society, education, science and sport.

history

From 1946 to 1948 a newspaper already existed under this name .

The Leipziger Zeitung was launched by the makers of the online portal Leipziger Internet Zeitung (whose sister medium it is to this day), the district newspaper 3Viertel and the network platform Weltnest with the aim of providing an alternative to the de facto monopoly of the only daily newspaper published in Leipzig , the Leipziger Volkszeitung to create. It was initially designed as a weekly newspaper. Since the required goal of gaining 12,000 subscribers in a short time could not be met, the publishers had to file for bankruptcy in August of the same year . As a result, the newspaper was taken over by the newly founded LZ Medien GmbH , the editorial team was reduced and the publication frequency was changed to a monthly rhythm.
