The Leister Group , based in Kägiswil , Canton Obwalden in Switzerland, is a manufacturer of plastic welding equipment, components for process heat, laser systems, gas sensors and micro-optics. The group operates in over 100 countries worldwide.

history

Karl Leister founded the sole proprietorship Karl Leister Elektro-Gerätebeau in Solingen , Germany in 1949 . The first product was the Leister FIX W200 handheld vacuum cleaner . A few years later, Karl Leister invented the Leister KOMBI, a hot air device for welding thermoplastics . He opens the first company building in Solingen.

The sales network has been continuously expanded since 1953. In 1963 the first branch was opened in Kägiswil with four employees. Shortly afterwards, the Process Heat product line , which includes air heaters and blowers, was developed. The previous location was expanded. In 1977 all business activities were relocated to Switzerland. In 1979, the company set up its own engine production facility. Leister expanded the production capacities and built up a worldwide sales network. Leister was already active in Europe, Asia and Latin America in the 1980s.

After Karl Leister's death, his wife Christiane Leister took over the management of Leister Process Technologies in 1993. In the 1990s the company began to expand into other business areas. A product line for laser systems was introduced and activities in the area of gas sensors and micro-optics were started. The latter were later outsourced to the subsidiary Axetris . A clean room was set up for this in 1999 .

In 2008 the head office was relocated to Galileo-Strasse in Kägiswil.

In 2011, the sole proprietorship Leister Process Technologies (with the Leister and Axetris divisions) and the Leister companies abroad were transferred to a group structure. The holding company of the new Leister Group is Leister AG.

In 2014 the company Seamtek LLC, USA, was acquired in order to expand the market for foil welding. While Leister previously only had automatic welding machines in its range, Seamtek made it into stationary welding machines.
