Guide light Wriakhörn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The former guiding light Wriakhörn was about 550 m away from the Amrum lighthouse in the dunes.

The leading light Wriakhörn was a leading light on the German North Sea coast at the Schleswig-Holstein island Amrum . Until it was switched off, it secured the Kniepfahrwasser in front of the Kniepsand . The 17 meter high lattice mast stood about 550 meters from the Amrum lighthouse to the southwest on the dunes. On August 8, 2016, the Waterways and Shipping Office switched off the beacon. It then had the structure dismantled in September 2016 because it was dilapidated.

history

The lattice mast was erected in July 1955. It was equipped with a 380 Pintsch sea lantern and had a fire height of 26 meters above the MThw , its nominal range was about 12  nautical miles (white light) or nine nautical miles (red light). Over the years it was completely sanded in up to a height of about nine meters. In addition, the sand and North Sea air had so damaged the structure that it became too dangerous for the employees of the then water and shipping authority to climb onto the structure. Modern, satellite-based navigation technology finally made the beacon obsolete, so it was switched off in 2016. In the course of the dismantling, the employees of the Waterways and Shipping Office had to shovel the mast free to a depth of four meters in order to get to the electrical connection box. At this height, the tower was cut through in consultation with the nature conservation officer Amrums. Five meters of the structure remained in the Amrum dunes. The removed part is to be set up in a shortened form for demonstration purposes in the island's maritime sign port.
