Emergence

After Die Fantastischen Vier released the album 4:99 in 1999 , the band members turned back to solo projects. A year later Thomas D. released his solo single Love Letter , but without an accompanying album. For his second album Lessons in Humility , he invented the fictional character Reflektor Falke , from whose perspective the texts were written.

style

Lessons in Humility is not your typical hip hop album. The beats are very strongly influenced by the ambient . In contrast to the first solo album, which still contained mostly loose texts, profound and socially critical topics are addressed. Thomas D. also completely refrained from guest contributions from other rappers and singers, which is also unusual for the genre. To a large extent, the album has a real "radio play character". As a first piece it contains a prologue , in the booklet itself each song text forms a chapter. In the texts, the lifestyle of mankind is attacked, with "Reflektor Falke" appearing as their guilty conscience and always using a very poetic language. In prayer to the planet , the way people deal with animals and nature is also denounced.

reception

Lessons in Humility received mostly good reviews. laut.de especially praised the concept of the album and awarded it four out of five points. “ [...] In 2001 Thomas D presented himself bulky, gloomy, apocalyptic and anything but suitable for the masses. For that alone, the man from Stuttgart deserves a lot of respect. “So the conclusion. The only point of criticism is the little musical variety.

New edition

On April 15, 2011, a new edition of the album was released, this time with the title "Lessons in Humility 11.0". The lyrics of the album correspond exactly to the original version, but have been given a new musical accompaniment. In addition, the intermediate texts were set to music, which were added to the booklet in text form in the first version.
