history

According to the idea of Friedrich von Bodelschwingh the Elder and Karl Schnitger , the first collection of fragments was created in Bethel ( Bielefeld ) in 1890/1891 , in which (according to Joh 6,12  LUT ) no fragments should be lost, but usable items should be recycled.

In April 1913 the non-profit Brockensammlung was launched. The founders were citizens of Lübeck from the Association for the Welfare of Released Prisoners and the Morally Neglected and the Lübeck women's group of the German Association against the Abuse of Spiritual Beverages .

The purpose of the Brockensammlung was to collect items such as household items, furniture, clothes, shoes, toys, scrap iron, non-ferrous metals, bottles, paper and rags that were made available by the citizens of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck . Things that could still be used should be processed and thus provided for people living in poverty.

According to a report by the Lübecker Volksbote, the first collection took place on March 15, 1913. Initially, the Brockensammlung was located at Schildstraße 10 , then from 1916 to 1932 in the Lübeck salt stores on the Obertrave. Until it ceased operations in 1942 during the Second World War , the association was located at Töpferweg 20.

After the Second World War, the association was re-founded on February 6, 1951 by interested parties around Henny Drückhammer and the Lübeck Workers' Welfare Association. Henny Drückhammer had been managing director of the non-profit Brockensammlung from 1916 to 1942. The first point of contact was a barrack on Konstinplatz, then a barrack on Holstentorplatz , after which the headquarters were in a former coal shop on Kanalstrasse . This was followed by rooms in the Kranen-Konvent in Kleine Burgstrasse . After these rooms were needed to expand the Ernestinenschule cafeteria , the Brockensammlung moved in 2010 to a former gymnasium under monument protection in the immediate vicinity of Lübeck's main train station on Steinrader Weg. The gymnasium had not been used for ten years and was refurbished for this purpose from May 2010. The Possehl Foundation and the non-profit Sparkassenstiftung zu Lübeck contributed to the costs .
