Lemalu Samau Tate Simi

Lemalu Samau Tate Simi (born October 19, 1952 in Fagali'i , Samoa ; † April 17, 2014 ibid) was a Samoan official , poet and diplomat .

Career

Simi attended Samoa College and studied architecture and drawing at Wellington Polytechnic and the Central Institute of Technology. He then worked as a draftsman at the New Zealand Ministry of Labor, the Wellington Housing Cooperative and the Samoa Public Works Office. In 1978 he moved to the Samoan Labor Office as Chief Executive Officer.

In 1992 Simi published "A deeper song", his first collection of poetry. In 1995 a new edition followed with additional, new poems. From 1995 Simi was President of the Samoan Red Cross .

In 2012, Simi was appointed Samoas High Commissioner for Australia , with second accreditation for Indonesia , Malaysia (from March 19, 2012), East Timor , Singapore and Thailand .

In 2014 Simi died in his sleep in Samoa when he was home for Easter. The funeral took place on April 25th.
