Len is a Canadian alternative rock band from Toronto , Ontario . She achieved international fame in 1999 with her song Steal My Sunshine . The band was founded by Marc Costanzo (vocals, guitar) and Sharon Costanzo (vocals, bass).
history
Early works by the band, founded in 1991, were based on artists such as My Bloody Valentine , Mystery Machine and The Descendents . When Len was labeled a hip-hop version of Human League , Marc and Sharon were flattered and admitted to being addicted to Human League.
As an indie band, Len released an EP and two albums, Superstar and Get Your Legs Broke , first on No Records from Halifax , Nova Scotia , then on her own label Funtrip. These albums were sold between 20,000 and 35,000 times each. D Rock, DJ Move and Planet Pea joined the duo. The new members influenced the direction of the band from the original alternative punk / pop to a kind of hip-hop. They released the album You Can't Stop the Bum Rush in 1999, which also included the hit Steal My Sunshine , which reached eighth in the UK and ninth in the US , topped the Canadian charts and was part of the soundtrack for Go was. The piece consisted of the hoarse voice of Marc and, in contrast, the gentle sounding voice of Sharon, accompanied by a sample from the song More, More, More by Andrea True Connection .
2000 the band covered the song Kids in America by Kim Wilde for the film Digimon - The Movie ; the cover version was recorded in Los Angeles.
In 2002 We Be Who We Be was only released in the USA and Canada on the Dreamworks label. The album was originally intended for the second quarter of 2002; after years of delays, the band left the label and switched to Venus Corp ( EMI ). On February 14, 2005, Venus Corp released a completely different Len album, Diary of the Madmen , which was only released in Canada. Still, some stores decided not to sell it because of the harsh language.
Len was working on a follow-up album for Diary of the Madmen , which should be completed in the summer of 2007 with Marcin Watras. The album should contain ten songs - including a cover of a song by Ozzy Osbourne from his similar sounding album Diary of a Madman - and guests like Junior "Dirty" Sanchez, Stubbs and Chin should participate. Marc and Sharon's voices shouldn't be heard with every song. So far this album has not been released.
