Lena Erdil (born February 28, 1989 in Çeşme ) is a German - Turkish windsurfer . She is three-time slalom vice world champion and won the IFCA world championship title in 2015 and 2016

biography

Erdil is the daughter of a Turk and a German and grew up in Göppingen , her mother's hometown , since she was two years old . When they were ten, they moved on to Brussels together . She also got into windsurfing through her parents, who have been running a surfing station in Bodrum since 2006 .

At the age of 18 she started for the first time at a World Cup event, which took place in Alaçatı not far from her hometown. She was able to place in the top 10 of the slalom classification in her first season. After five years among the top ten, she was able to classify herself on the podium for the first time in the 2012 season at the event in Reggio Calabria as well as in the overall standings. In the following years she established herself among the best slalom riders in the world. She narrowly missed the title in 2014 , 2016 , 2018 and was runner-up in each case. In recent years she has also increasingly started to ride in waves and freestyle, and in 2016 and 2018 she also started in the discipline in the World Cup for the first time. Her greatest goal is still to achieve the world title.

From the 2020 season Erdil will start for Germany. At the beginning of the year she became a member of the Olympic team of the North German Regatta Association with the aim of participating in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris .

Erdil studied Politics and Philosophy at the University of Sussex and speaks five languages ​​(German, English, Turkish, Spanish, French). She also runs her own windsurfing center in Bodrum.
