Lena Hasselström

Lena Thuresson , b. Hasselström (born February 6, 1972 ) is a former Swedish ski orienteer .

On her World Cup debut in 1990, she won the silver medal with Annika Zell and Arja Hannus in the relay. In her second World Cup participation four years later in Val di Non , the 1992 relay junior world champion won the gold medal in the relay competition with Ann-Charlotte Carlsson and Annika Zell. In 1995 she was second in the overall World Cup behind the Finn Arja Nuolioja . At the 1998 World Championships she was second behind Annika Zell on the short distance. Over the long distance she had to admit defeat to the Finn Liisa Anttila and again Annika Zell. She won silver with the relay. In 1999 she finished second in the World Cup for the second time behind Arja Hannus. In 2000, in Krasnoyarsk , Russia , Hasselström defended her short-distance silver medal behind Tatyana Vlasova . She also won silver again with the Swedish relay. In 2001 she won gold medals in sprint and middle distance at the first European championships in orienteering skiing. In 2000 and 2001 she won the World Cup. In 2002 she completed her sixth and last world championships in Borovets , Bulgaria and won the sprint and long distance ahead of Erja Jokinen from Finland . In the middle distance race, Hasselström was third behind her compatriot Stina Grenholm and Jokinen. In the season she won the silver medal for the third time in a row with Stina Grenholm and Ida Wirkström .
