Lenin el-Ramly
Lenin el-Ramly (born August 18, 1945 in Cairo - † February 7, 2020 ), Arabic لينين الرملي, DMG Līnīn ar-Ramlī , was an Egyptian theater and film writer and director .
Life
Born into a politically active family, he published his first short story in the magazine Sabāh al-Chair at the age of 11 . From 1967 he wrote for television, radio and cinema, before finally turning to the theater from 1974 onwards. His work made him famousتخاريف / 'Superstition', which combined easily accessible comedy with existentialist and socio-political issues. More than 40 other plays followed by 2012, after which he worked as a juror and political commentator. He also became known in the West in 1992 for his workبالعربي الفصيح / 'In clear Arabic', which was also translated into English under the title In Plain Arabic and which critically deals with pan-Arabism and its aftermath. Also his film released in 1994الإرهابي / 'The Terrorist', based on his debut in 1967, reached a large audience.
Lenin el-Ramly has received numerous national and international prizes and awards for his work, including the Dutch Prince Claus Prize in 2005 .
