Leningradskiy Island ( Russian Остров Ленинградзкиь Ostrow Leningradski , German 'Leningradinsel' ) is an icy and up to 100 m high island off the Princess Astrid coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located at the head of Leningradskiy Bay on the western edge of the Lazarev Ice Shelf .
Soviet scientists mapped it in 1959 and named it, like the bay of the same name, after the city of Leningrad, today's Saint Petersburg . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian designation into English in 1970.
