The Leningradskiy Bay ( Russian Залив Ленинградзкиь Saliw Leningradski , German , Leningrad Bay ' ) is a bay in front of the Princess Astrid Coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Lands . It is located immediately to the west of the Lasarew Ice Shelf on the northern edge of the ice shelf belt off the coast . Leningradskiy Island is at the head of the bay.
Soviet scientists mapped it in 1959 and named it after the city of Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian designation into English in 1970.
