The Lenox Hill Hospital is a hospital in the Upper East Side in the northeast of Manhattan in New York City .

It serves as the University Hospital Hofstra Nothwell School of Medicine of Hofstra University , can also by students of New York University School of Medicine , New York Medical College and SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University are visited.

More than 163,000 patients are treated annually, 45% of whom are direct from Manhattan. Due to the high ethnic and linguistic diversity of the patients, a translation service is available around the clock.

In 1857, a group of community leaders in Manhattan (including recognized Ernst Krackowizer ) the need to provide the large number of immigrants and established medical purpose the German Dispensary ( German dispensary ) in 132 Canal Street. As early as 1862 the company moved to a larger house at 8 East Third Street and was able to treat 10,000 patients a year from then on.

In 1868 the new German Hospital and Dispensary opened on Fourth Avenue (Park Avenue) and 77th Street. In 1887 four German-American women founded a training school for nurses. In 1907 the first physiotherapy department opened in the United States and in 1908 the first tuberculosis department opened in New York City.

In 1918 the German Hospital was renamed Lenox Hill Hospital .

In 1931, Winston Churchill was treated for serious injuries as a result of an accident on Park Avenue while crossing the street. The United States' first angiocardiography was performed in 1938 . In 1955 one of the first cardiac catheterization laboratories in the New York Metropolitan Area was opened. In 1969 Margaret Mead gave a speech to graduates from the nursing school about to take their final exams. In 1989 the city's first lymph node disease department opens.

In 2000, one of the country's first medical robots for minimally invasive cardiac bypass operations was put into operation. In 2003 the first drug eluting stent to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration is implanted. In 2007 more than 65,000 patients were treated. In 2009, the first endoscopic coronary artery bypass surgery was performed on a beating heart with a medical robot.
