The Lenzsiedlung is a settlement built in the 1970s and 1980s in the city of Hamburg . It is located in the Eimsbüttel district on the southern edge of Lokstedt , bordering the Stellingen and Eimsbüttel districts .
description
The large housing estate was built in two phases based on the urban development model of “ urbanity through density ”. First, in 1976 and 1978, the southern part with 9 to 13-storey high-rise buildings was built. The northern part with 3 to 5 storey clinker buildings was ready for occupancy in 1984. The houses were built almost exclusively as part of social housing . The Lenzsiedlung contains a total of 1130 social housing. The largest part is owned by the SAGA group of companies .
The connection to public transport is very good. The Hamburg city center can be reached by subway in 15 minutes. There are two primary schools and a district school in the immediate vicinity. In the settlement itself there is a community center run by an association.
Around 3,000 people live in the settlement. The following figures correspond to the status of 2007: 30% of the residents are children and young people under 18 years of age, 10% are over 65 years old. Many young families live in the settlement. The proportion of residents of other origins is 40%. For 25 to 29 year olds, the proportion is over 60%. The proportion of unemployed is 14.8% and thus well above the national average. In 2005 every third resident received social benefits according to the Second and Twelfth Book of the Social Code .
In the years 2000 to 2007 the Hamburg Senate included the Lenzsiedlung in the funding programs “Social District Development” and “Active District Development” in order to improve the poor image of the district and the living, working and health situation of the residents. The result was, among other things, the establishment of a district advisory board in which residents, institutions and representatives of politics meet, courses for residents and renovation of the facades and outdoor facilities. During this time, the community center has developed into a center for many residents. The upgrading measures were supported with funds from the owners, donations and funds from the Socially Integrative City program and were awarded several prizes.
