Stellingen is a district in the Eimsbüttel district of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . Langenfelde also belongs to the Stellingen district.

history

The name Stellingen is probably derived from the establishment of the village by a man named Stallo , an old Germanic male name. According to another interpretation, the name goes back to the East Frisian name for a court chair.

Stone Age finds from 1937 - a reindeer antler hoe and several fragments of vessels from ancient urn cemeteries from the Iron Age - point to the early settlement of Stellingen.

Stellingen was not mentioned in a document until 1347 in the Eppendorfer church registers. In 1460 the Pinneberger Grafschaft waived Holstein inheritance claims. Stellingen became Danish from 1640 and suffered from the Thirty Years' War and the subsequent wars of Denmark. From the 1730s, members of the Kölln family administered the place as bailiffs ; their seat was on the farm "Vogthufe" in today's Vogt-Kölln-Straße . In 1777 the Danish King Christian VII set up a customs post in Stellingen, on what is now Kieler Strasse . At this time, Langenfeld was mentioned for the first time. Kieler Strasse was expanded into a road from 1830 to 1832. The first full-time municipality chairman of Stellingen was master wheelwright Joachim Wördemann from 1882, in whose honor the Wördemanns Weg is named. In the aftermath of the German-Danish War in 1864, Stellingen fell to Prussia three years later, in 1867 .

An important source of income for the Stellingen farmers at that time was the milk and butter trade. The “Bodderbuern” moved across the country with their covered wagons and exchanged their dairy products for poultry, ham and sausages. The female family members, on the other hand, sold the dairy products in the cities of Altona and Hamburg.

Stellinger Church in Molkenbuhrstrasse at the beginning of the 20th century (1908 or later), destroyed in 1943 and replaced by a new church building after the war

In 1875, the municipal council elected for the first time on the basis of the Schleswig-Holstein municipal constitution gave its approval for the construction of the tram, which was to connect Stellingen on the Kieler Strasse route with Altona on the one hand and Eidelstedt on the other. In 1907 the famous Hagenbeck Zoo opened its doors. In 1921 the construction of the garden city of Langenfelde began on the area of a former brick factory by the settlement community for war disabled . Stellingen's independence ended in 1927 with the compulsory incorporation of the municipality of Stellingen-Langenfelde into Altona, which was incorporated into the Hamburg city-state in 1937/1938. The Second World War hit Stellingen hard: In Langenfelde alone, 38 percent of the buildings were destroyed.

Stellingen has been part of the Hamburg district of Eimsbüttel since 1951 .

The district is strongly characterized by traffic axes. As part of a "district repair", the Hamburg lid is currently also being built over the motorway section from the Stellingen junction to the northern freight bypass. The Stellingen tunnel is to be fully completed in 2020, the green spaces 18 months later.

After the sports field has already been relocated between Sportplatzring, Basselweg and Stellinger Steindamm, the so-called “New Center Stellingen” can be built there with 700 apartments. The road has already been developed. In the future, the "Sportplatzring" stop of line 5 of the subway, which is still in the early planning stage, is to be built here.

Zoo and other parks

Hagenbeck's zoo is well known far beyond the city limits with its listed gate, which is no longer an entrance. The new entrance is in the immediate vicinity of the Hagenbecks Tierpark stop on the U2 line of the Hamburg subway , which is no longer in Stellingen, but in the Lokstedt area.

To the north of Hagenbeck's zoo, in Stellingen, there is what is known as “Stellinger Switzerland”, or actually “Stellinger Feldmark” ( ), a hilly area with a rural character. The Hamburg waterworks extract drinking water there. The meadows at the Wolfgang Meyer sports facility and the zoo are called "Eimsbüttler Stadtpark".

There is also an ice skating and cycling stadium with a striking tent roof, the Sportwerk Hamburg squash facility , home of the Bundesliga team of Sportwerk Hamburg Walddörfer , and the Grün-Weiss Eimsbüttel club's tennis facility .

Historically, the HSV forerunner Falke 06 was a Stellingen club, as was Britannia 01 (later St. Pauli Sport , still later ESV ) as the forerunner of Grün-Weiß Eimsbüttel .

The Stellinger Stadium ( ) with two hard courts and a grass field was located on the sports field ring. In 2017 the sports field was relocated to Vogt-Kölln-Straße. This is where the teams of TSV Stellingen 88 and SV West-Eimsbüttel play their point games.

Stellingen has had its own volunteer fire brigade (FF) since 1885, based in Melanchthonstrasse, where the Stellingen prison was previously located. As a result of the Greater Hamburg Act of 1937, the FF (F 1931) was incorporated into the Hamburg fire brigade . The tasks of the FF Stellingen are to support the professional fire brigade in questions of defense against dangers for the general public. In addition, the Stellingen fire brigade is active in disaster control (dike defense) and has taken on the so-called special components “decontamination and cleaning” and “sensing and measuring”. Since 1976 the FF Stellingen has been successfully involved in youth work with its youth fire brigade . JF Stellingen has a partner youth fire service in the United States, the Mineola Junior Fire Department.

The fire and rescue station Stellingen (F15) of the professional fire brigade has existed on Basselweg since 1966. This was expanded in 1996 and today has 105 employees.
