Leo Brewster
Leo Brewster (born October 16, 1903 in Fort Worth , Texas , † November 27, 1979 ) was an American lawyer . After his appointment by President John F. Kennedy , he served as a federal judge in the federal district court for the northern district of Texas from 1962 .
Career
After graduating from school, Leo Brewster attended the University of Texas at Austin , at whose School of Law he earned a Bachelor of Laws in 1925 . He then worked in his private practice in Fort Worth until 1962. During that time, he served as assistant district attorney in Tarrant County from 1935 to 1939 .
On September 25, 1961, Brewster was nominated by President Kennedy for the first time as a judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas ; however, there was no vote by the US Senate . On October 5 of the same year, John F. Kennedy used a recess appointment during the recess of the Congress to occupy the newly established seat with Brewster. The formal appeal was made on January 15, 1962, whereupon the Senate confirmed Brewster's appointment on January 16 of the same year and this could officially take up his office at the District Court one day later. From 1972 to 1973 he was Chief Judge Chairman of this federal court . On November 1, 1973, he switched to senior status and thus effectively retired. Its seat fell to Robert William Porter ; the court was presided over by William McLaughlin Taylor . Leo Brewster died on November 27, 1979 in Fort Worth and was buried in the Greenwood Memorial Park there.
