Leo Finzi

Leo Finzi (born September 24, 1924 in Milan ; † 2002 ibid.) Was an Italian civil engineer .

Finzi studied at the Milan Polytechnic with a Laureate degree in 1946 and completed his habilitation in 1954. From 1958 he was professor of civil engineering at the Milan Polytechnic, where he headed the civil engineering faculty from 1973 to 1976.

He dealt with both reinforced concrete and steel construction, published on the dynamics and stability of building structures and dealt with theoretical and experimental studies on elasticity and plasticity theory and thermoelasticity. He was part of the commission for Eurocode 3 (steel construction).

His buildings include the Palazzo ENI in Rome (1959 to 1962, ENI administration building ) and its administration building in San Donato Milanese, the dome at the Palasport di Genova and the renovation of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan.

He made suggestions for a bridge over the Strait of Messina (as a suspension bridge with two large pylons) and he was on the committee for the Leaning Tower of Pisa .

In 1982 he became a member of the Accademia dei Lincei . In 1992 he received the International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering .
