Ernst Gäßler
Ernst Gäßler (born December 12, 1889 in Kirchen-Hausen , Baden , † April 1945 in Debrecen ) was a German politician of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and peasant functionary. He was a member of the Baden state parliament .
Life
Gäßler worked on his parents' farm, which he later inherited. Even before the First World War he was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany . He then switched to the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany and eventually became a member of the KPD. On October 30, 1921 Gäßler was elected for the KPD in the Baden state parliament, to which he belonged until 1925. In October 1923 Gäßler took part in the First International Farmers' Congress in Moscow . In the Reichstag elections in 1928 and 1930 he was a candidate on the KPD's Reich list, but was not elected. From 1929 to 1932 Gäßler acted as head of the Baden tenants and small farmers' association. Gäßler was also a member of the German Committee for the preparation of the European Farmers Congress.
After the National Socialist seizure of power in 1933 Gäßler was imprisoned for some time. Towards the end of the Second World War he was drafted for military service and used on the Eastern Front. Gäßler died in April 1945 in a Soviet prisoner-of-war camp in Debrecen, Hungary.
