The Leohöhle is a shaft cave in Heidenheim an der Brenz on the eastern Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg .
Geographical location
The Leo cave is located on the outer corner in the south-eastern quadrant of grave field 22 on the Heidenheim forest cemetery at around 620 m. ü. NHN .
History and topography
The cave was discovered on September 2, 2013 by an employee of the cemetery, who secured and closed the cave entrance with a shaft. In the following month, the first inspection and exploration by the speleologists Andreas Kücha , Jürgen Bohnert and Denise Schönenberg took place. These penetrated to a depth of 17 meters and were able to measure the two-shaft, ventilated cave over a length of 22 meters.
The cave is named after the son of the cemetery worker, who was born on the day of the discovery.
