Leon Aganessowitsch Petrosian
Leon Aganessowitsch Petrosjan ( Russian Леон Аганесович Петросян ; born December 18, 1940 in Leningrad ) is a Russian mathematician. He is Professor of Applied Mathematics and Chair of Mathematical Game Theory and Statistical Decision Theory at the St. Petersburg State University in Russia .
Research areas
Leon Petrosjan is primarily concerned with research in the fields of operations research , game theory , differential games and control theory .
In particular, Leon Petrosyan made a decisive contribution to the following topics:
- Solution concept for simple chase games such as "games with a lifeline", group chase on the level and other classes of simple chase games. As well as solution methods for regular chase games with a prescribed duration and independent movements.
- Differential chase games with incomplete information as well as games with delayed information regarding the current game situation. Finite search games and dynamic search games. The construction of saddle points using mixed strategies. Solving specific games with incomplete information.
- Investigation and elaboration of the Nash equilibrium for multi-level games under complete information, based on the preference functions of the players. Proof of the uniqueness of such an equilibrium. Derivation of the analog Der Bellmann-Isaaks differential equation for the payoff function in Nash equilibrium for n-person differential games. Description of classes of Nash equilibrium solutions for concrete differential games.
- Presentation and investigation of the time consistency of the solutions in differential games with n-people. Analysis of the classical principles of optimality from cooperative and non-cooperative game theory from the perspective of their time consistency. Proof of the time consistency of the most well-known principles of optimality. Regulation methods ( integral and differential ) based on IDP (Imputation Distribution Procedures), which offer the possibility to construct new time-consistent optimality principles from the previous time-inconsistent principles of optimality.
- Applications in environmental protection. Methods for the creation of time-consistent political measures for long-term environmental planning based on the above-mentioned cooperative and non-cooperative differential games.
Academic activities
Leon Petrosjan is one of the editors of the journal International Game Theory Review (WS Pbl., Singapore, London); Editor of the international periodical Game Theory and Applications (Nova sci. Pbl. NY, USA); the main editor of Vestnik Peterburgskogo Universiteta, seria 10: Applied Mathematics, Control, Informatics; and editor-in-chief of the journal Mathematical Game Theory and Applications (Karelian Research Center of RAS). From 2008 to 2012 he was President of the International Society on Dynamic Games .
