Leon Bibb , OBC (born February 7, 1922 in Louisville , Kentucky - † October 23, 2015 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) was an American folk singer and film actor who grew up in Kentucky, worked in New York City and since 1969 lived in Vancouver, Canada .

Life

During the McCarthy era of the 1950s, Leon Bibb was - like his friend Paul Robeson  - one of the American entertainers who suffered from restrictions because of alleged "un-American activities". After overcoming these obstacles, Bibb released a variety of LPs from the late 1950s to the 1970s and appeared on nationally broadcast television shows such as Hootenanny .

His a cappella singing combines elements of his classical vocal training with spiritual and blues influences .

He is the father of European-based blues singer and songwriter Eric Bibb . Its worldwide success, which began around 1997, meant that father and son released two albums together: A Family Affair (2002) and Praising Peace - A Tribute to Paul Robeson (2006).
