Leon Schneider (born June 19, 2000 in Eisenhüttenstadt ) is a German football player in the position of central defense and defensive midfield. He has been playing for the second team of 1. FC Köln since 2019 .

Career

In his youth, Schneider played at Aufbau Eisenhüttenstadt until 2012 and then at FC Eisenhüttenstadt . At the age of 13 he joined the youth team at FC Energie Cottbus. From 2016 he played for the U-19s, with whom he had to accept relegation from the A-Junioren-Bundesliga North / Northeast to the second-rate Regionalliga Northeast in 2017 . In the 2016/17 season, Schneider was appointed to the training of the Energie Cottbus first team. However , the then 16-year-old Schneider was not allowed to play in the regional league because he was not allowed to play. In the following season Schneider made his debut for the professional team of FC Energie Cottbus in a 7-2 win against BSC Preußen Blankenfelde-Mahlow in the Brandenburg State Cup . He got his first appearance in the regional league on the sixth day of play against Germania Halberstadt , when he came on in the 77th minute. Another short assignment followed on the ninth matchday against the U-23 from Hertha BSC .

Energie Cottbus will play in the 3rd division in the 2018/19 season . Leon Schneider played for the first time on the ninth matchday in the 1: 2 defeat against Halleschen FC . He made his starting eleven ten days later in the 3-1 loss to Fortuna Cologne . In the first half of the 2018/19 season, Schneider managed to belong to the extended circle of regular players. After playing mainly as a defensive midfielder until the 2017/18 season, he has played mostly as a central defender since the 2018/19 season.

In July 2019 he moved to 1. FC Köln .
